Captain John Sharp's Corner - Chesapeake Bay Fishing News & Reports

Trophy Season

Posted on May 10, 2016 by Captain John Sharp

We still have a few days left in this years trophy season, but it will be over soon. Just like every year, there have been ups and downs, but I have to say, that without a doubt, this has been a pretty good season. We have run quite a few trips, and on most, we have been able to put some really nice fish in the boat.
I am looking forward to the next phase of the season, where we can catch the resident fish. The creel limit has remained the same as it was last year - two fish over 20" with an allowance for one of the two to be over 28". This is a particularly fun time of year as we are still trolling with planer boards and can get over schooled up fish. It is a blast when more than one rod goes off at the same time.
Traditionally, we will fish like this for about the next five or six weeks, usually to about the end of June. There are still plenty of open dates, so check the calendar and set something up with us if you would like to go.

Winter 2016

It is hard to believe, but this report starts the tenth year of the Capt's Corner. When I reflect about all of the trips, experiences, and people over the last decade, I can't help but think about how lucky I have been to be able to experience this marvelous enterprise. How many people can say that they have had the opportunity to not only fish and travel on the Chesapeake Bay, (one of the most beautiful places anywhere), but also meet and get to know hundreds of customers, many of whom come back year after year. Indeed, many customers have turned into lifelong friends. I am truly thankful for all of this.
Now, once again, we are moving into the spring of the year and the beginning of the next season. As we have done so many times before, the schedule will start to get very busy with preparations: the boat, the fishing gear and tackle, and advertising. I can honestly say, that no matter how many times I do this, the excitement and anticipation remain the same. Fishing season is only two months away. I cant wait.
