Captain John Sharp's Corner - Chesapeake Bay Fishing News & Reports

winter 2015

Posted on March 02, 2015 by Captain John Sharp

I have been doing this for many years, but it seems that no matter how long it has been, the routine never changes. After a short winter break, with the arrival of the first change in the weather, all of a sudden, my thoughts begin to focus on the upcoming season. The dreams of being on the water are reawakened and the excitement for the upcoming season starts to build. This year it is no different. Once again, the season is about six weeks away and I am starting to get ready.
I can hardly wait.

Summer to October

Posted on October 17, 2014 by Captain John Sharp

Where does the year go? It seems like we just started fishing a few weeks ago, and now we are closing in on the last two months of the season. It just goes to show that time does fly when you are having fun! As it seems like I say every year, it has been pretty good overall. Also, as usual, we certainly did have our share of days when the fish were not cooperating. But once again, those days blur into the background with memories of all the great fishing days and good times we have since the spring.
Live lining is pretty much over, and for the last few weeks, we have gone back to trolling. The rock are following the bait out into the main part of the bay now and are schooling up nicely. Although the big fish have yet to return, the fish we are catching are for the most part, fat hand healthy. October can also bring some beautiful weather. I am really looking forward to fishing over the next few weeks. By mid November, hopefully, the bigger migratory fish will be back. We always look forward to ending the season going after these big fish.
